Our Present and Our Future

Our journal, Psychodynamic Psychiatry, advances scholarship and is a crucial voice in our field.

Academy-sponsored symposia reach standing-room-only crowds at the APA Annual Meeting, the Institute for Psychiatric Services, and the World Psychiatric Association.

The Academy is an Allied Organization of the APA with a voice in the Assembly.

The Academy has a successful personalized Mentorship Program for Members-in-Training and Medical Students.

Career Building Opportunities
Members can build administrative and leadership skills through service in the different branches of the Academy.

The Forum and the electronic newsletter offer the chance to write varied articles from short news reports to longer thought pieces.

Outreach to Psychiatry and the related professions beyond the Academy
The Teichner Award, funded by a generous donor, supports psychodynamic teaching for Psychiatric Residency Training Programs in the US.  More programs are being added.

The Journal Award and the Scott Schwartz Award encourage writing in our field and call attention to psychodynamic psychiatry.

The Academy website (http://www.aapdp.org.) offers lectures and display of members’ recent books.
