The American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry is a national psychiatric association founded to provide an open forum for our members to discuss relevant and responsible views of motivation for human behavior and to exchange ideas with other social and behavioral scientists.
The American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry is an organization of psychiatrists interested in the application of psychodynamic psychotherapy in clinical practice and in understanding aspects of culture and art.
We are an affiliate organization of the APA and welcome interested colleagues to join us at our Annual Meetings and share our publications.
The aims of The American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry are:
•To provide a forum for the expression of ideas, concepts, and research in psychodynamic psychiatry and
psychoanalysis.;
•To constitute a forum for expression of and inquiry into the phenomena of individual motivation and
social behavior;
•To encourage and support research in psychodynamic psychiatry and psychoanalysis;
•To advance the development of psychodynamic psychiatry and psychoanalysis in all other aspects;
•To develop communication among psychiatrists, psychoanalysts, and their colleagues in other
disciplines in science and in the humanities.
The Research Committee of the Academy sponsors original clinical investigations in which members can participate. Research topics have included homsexuality and eating disorders.
The Academy has an Annual Meeting for discussion of theoretical and clinical issues by members and other professionals.
The Annual Meeting is held immediately prior to the American Psychiatirc Association Meeting in the same city. It is a four-day meeting with panels, workshops, small group discussions, award presentations and social events.
