The American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry is holding its twelfth joint meeting with the Organizzazione di Psicoanalisti Italiani-Federazione e Registro (OPIFER) in central Genoa, October 16-17, 2010. The theme of the meeting is “Trauma and Identity: In the Footsteps of Silvano Arieti.” The meeting is open to all members of the Academy, and to other psychiatrists from the USA and abroad.

The Keynote Speaker is Dr. Clarice Kestenbaum, Past President of our Academy and of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Erminia Scarcella, Academy Fellow and Trustee, faculty member of George Washington University Medical College and Designated Physician of the Embassy of Italy is speaking as well. There will be many other outstanding speakers from the USA and Europe.

Genoa, “la Superba,” is rich in history and noted for its Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic Architecture. It has a vibrant cultural life which earned it the title of European Capital of Culture in 2004. Nearby to the city are unique places to visit, such as Cinque Terre, Portofino and the Italian Riviera. October is a lovely time to visit the Ligurian Coast; the weather is good, the tourists are few.
